8 Days Tour: Cusco – Sacred Valley – Machu Picchu – Maras Salt Mines – Vinicunca – South Valley – Humantay Lake

Day 01: Welcome to the city of Cusco – Airport Transfer & City Tour

Welcome to the Inca imperial capital of Cusco, also known as the cultural capital of Peru! Upon arrival at the Cusco airport, we will wait for you with a sign with the name of the main traveler, we will take you to your hotel to check in, leave your luggage and freshen up. You will have some time to rest before finding a place to have lunch.

The tour begins with the pick up from the hotel in the historic center of Cusco. The first place to visit will be the famous Coricancha (Temple of the Sun) in which we will be able to appreciate the mixture between Inca constructions (with its perfectly polished stone walls) and Spanish (the church built on the Inca walls).
After the visit to the Coricancha we will go out of the city towards Sacsayhuamán without first making a stop at the viewpoint of Cristo Blanco (panoramic viewpoint of the entire city) this is where we can see huge stone blocks of up to 40 tons perfectly placed one on top of the other. . Our guide will explain the importance of this place before the arrival of the Spanish and during the colony since this place witnessed one of the greatest battles between the Incas and the Spanish.

We will continue towards the sector of Qenqo (labyrinth) that bears this name for its paths that give the impression of being inside a labyrinth here the most important place will be an old ceremonial table that owes its importance to the fact that this place was probably the last resting place or resting place of Pachacútec.

We will arrive at the archaeological site of PISAC, we can enjoy stunning views of this valley. Here you can appreciate immense Inca agricultural terraces, residences, altars, water channels, and tombs and we will learn all about the Inca agricultural methods shared by our guide profesional.es

Then, we will go to the town of PISAC to visit one of the most colorful traditional markets in the entire region. Take advantage of the excellent prices and buy directly from the producers! Our next stop is Urubamba, where we will arrive around noon. In this quiet place, you will have the opportunity to enjoy the best Peruvian food in a buffet lunch in a nice restaurant. There will be plenty of dishes to choose from to give you a taste of the region with fresh ingredients.

The last archaeological destination of the tour is located 30 minutes from Urubamba in Ollantaytambo. This site was built with pink granite rocks and is another impressive example of Inca engineering. Here you will be able to appreciate the second-largest Inca stone preserved to date (90 tons), which was used as part of the Temple of the Sun. You will discover all the secrets of Ollantaytambo on a guided tour of this fascinating place.

After our visit in Ollantaytambo, we will take you to the train station located in this same town and we will board the Voyager class Inca Rail train that will take us to Aguas Calientes (town of Machupicchu). This trip will allow you to see beautiful glaciers and snow-capped peaks, as well as fertile green valleys and Inca agricultural terraces on both sides of the valley. At the end of the train journey in Aguas Calientes at the exit door of the train station, we will be waiting to take you to your hotel where you will spend the night. Get settled in your hotel, After check-in, you will have free time to relax this afternoon. You can relax in the hot springs of Aguas Calientes or walk through the small streets of this town.

Day 03: Machu Picchu full day – Aguas Calientes

We will wake you up very early so that you can enjoy your breakfast without rushing at 6:00 am. In this way, we can board one of the first buses that leave for Machu Picchu. This means that you will beat the big crowds and be able to enjoy the complex in peace as the sun rises and casts a stunning orange glow on the massive stones. (Optional, you will have to get up early to see the sunrise in Machu Picchu or continue resting a little more).

Along with your guide, board the bus for a 30-minute tour before arriving at the entrance gate of Machu Picchu. Feel the powerful energy of this fantastic archaeological site as soon as you enter. You will feel the happiness of observing how the golden light of the sun gradually covers all the corners of Machu Picchu. Discover all its secrets and mysteries during a guided tour where you will also learn a lot about its history and the local flora and fauna. Our guide will take you for 2 hours through the most significant areas and then you will have some free time to explore Machu Picchu on your own. After having finished visiting Machu Picchu we will descend to Aguas Caliente.

In Aguas Calientes, you will find a place to have lunch and then you will board the train to Ollantaytambo. From there, you will travel to Cusco in our private transportation. We will leave you at the door of your accommodation in Cusco at approximately 18:10 PM.

Day 04: Maras Salt Mines Tour – Moray Archaeological Complex

After breakfast at your hotel we pick you up in Cusco around 8:00 am. We will head  for the small town of Chinchero. The trip takes around an hour and is a beautiful drive through the mountains giving you the most spectacular views. You will discover immense snow-capped mountains, vast cornfields and beautiful villages.

When we arrive, you will enjoy a demonstration of handmade textiles by local women. They are experts in the art, and it is a tradition that has existed for hundreds of years with totally natural dyes.

Soon we will be on the road again and we will take our transport to Moray. You are sure to be amazed by the unique formation of the place that many compare to an amphitheater. However, it was actually a gigantic Inca agricultural laboratory. Your guide will explain more about  the history of the site and you will have plenty of time to explore and take some photos.

the Salineras de Maras (Salt flats) are very often combined wiith a trip to Moray as they’re located very close.. It is only another 3km away and will surprise you once again with views that you have probably never seen before. The place has been producing salt since ancient times and there are more than 3,000 salt pools that are filled daily with groundwater.You will have at your disposal a surreal landscape to take the most incredible photographs with the salt flats in the foreground. We will then return to Cusco, arriving in the city just in time so you can find a good place for lunch.

Day 05: Mountain of Colors – Vinicunca

We will pick you up at the door of your accommodation at 5:00 AM to go for 3 hours to the South Valley of Cusco in our transport. Despite the early morning, you will have the opportunity to observe picturesque Andean villages, agricultural terraces from the Inca era, fertile valleys and beautiful wavy mountains. We will stop and observe the herds of llamas and alpacas that will entertain you while you enjoy a delicious breakfast in the Village of Cusipata

We will continue our journey until we reach the starting point of the trek at 4,630 m / 15,190 ft. There we will start on a winding road in the middle of the Andean mountains that follows a beautiful stream.

After an hour and a half of hiking, we will arrive at the incredible Rainbow Mountain of Cusco (5,100 m / 16,732 ft). Take your time to admire the amazing beauty of this impressive natural formation and feel the thrill of witnessing a unique natural site. You will explore the surroundings a bit and enjoy the impressive landscape while your guide explains the theories that exist about the origin of this mountain that seems to be taken from a colorful dream. Take this opportunity to take some amazing photos or just dive into  the scenery. We will spend between 60 minutes at the top, depending on weather conditions.

It will take us another hour to reach the starting point of the walk, from where we will board our transport to the restaurant in Cusipata and enjoy a buffet lunch. Then, we will board our transport again to return to the city of Cusco.

Day 06: South Valley Cusco Tour

This journey begins by picking you up from your hotel around 08:30 am. Then we will go by bus to the south of Cusco, during this journey we will be able to observe the beautiful landscapes of the Andean Mountains. The first stop will be the archaeological site of Tipón, an Inka ceremonial center where the flow of water from the high peaks of Cerro Pachatusan to the lowlands of the valley was controlled through a stone channel. Later we will visit the Archaeological Complex of Pikillaqta which literally means “city of fleas”. It is an old walled citadel of the Wari Empire, which was one of the most important regional centers of the Wari Culture in its expansion towards the city of Cusco. Finally we will conclude the journey visiting the beautiful Church of Andahuaylillas, a small jewel of the Colonial period, also known as ‘The Sistine of America’, inside which is an impressive collection of canvases with frames bathed in gold leaf and mural paintings, baroque altarpieces, and more. We can also appreciate the famous pentalingual door. On the way back to Cusco we will have an optional stop in the town of Oropesa (the land of bread) to try and buy traditional chuta bread. We can also taste the food in the town of Saylla (land of the pork rinds), this town is known for the famous pork rinds. We will be back in the city of Cusco at approximately 1:00 or 2:00 p.m.

Day 07: Humantay Lake Tour

We pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 5:00 am. We will start by driving to Mollepata, where we will stop for a delicious breakfast and enjoy the mountains in the morning light. Once we are full, we will continue on our transport to Soraypampa, where you will begin to feel the powerful presence of the glaciers. After listening to brief instructions from your guide, we will begin our 2-hour ascent to the beautiful Humantay Lake.

Keep in mind that you will be walking on very rocky terrain, so using a walking stick is a great idea. Take your time, walk slowly, get some rest, and try to drink plenty of fluids; it will be at a high altitude, so you should take things slow.

After the effort of walking uphill, you will enjoy the most incredible reward. Hidden among the rocky landscape, the impressive Humantay Lake gradually appears. This beautiful body of turquoise water originates from the same snow that covers the mountain, which melts and drains away. Hike and make an effort to go a bit higher up the surrounding rocky slopes for better views. The higher you are, the more turquoise the water will look and you will be able to enjoy the best panoramic view. Being so close to the mountains will really shake you up and you will probably understand why they are so sacred in the Andean culture.

It will be about an hour and a half downhill to return to Soraypampa, where you will return to the town of Mollepata to enjoy a spectacular buffet lunch. Then you will board our transport to take you back to Cusco.

Day 08: Farewell and Transfer to Cusco Airport

Breakfast at the hotel. At the appropriate time, we will pick you up to transfer you to the airport to board your return flight, thus concluding our tour.
